Interlibrary Loan Services - Getting Started

Materials not owned by The Fred Parks Law Library may be borrowed from other libraries for short loan periods to support the teaching, learning, and scholarship of the STCL community. Interlibrary loan services are limited to faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students.

South Texas uses an automated interlibrary loan system called ILLiad to process and manage all requests. ILLiad offers many advantages over traditional ILL systems including:

Ease of use when submitting your ILL requests
More rapid and accurate processing of your requests
Online status tracking of your requests at any time

Getting Started
To submit a request using ILLiad, follow these steps:

Click the ILLiad button at the top of the page to begin
You must first create an ILLiad account with a unique username and password, which you will then use to access ILLiad every time you log on.
Next, from the Main Menu, choose the appropriate form – Book or Photocopy – to provide information that will help us to locate your item in another library.
You will be notified by email when your requested item is available.

Interlibrary loans are provided usually without charge, although sometimes participating libraries charge for photocopied materials or electronic document transmissions.

Please allow a minimum of one week to receive requested materials.

To maintain good standing with lending libraries, all books must be returned on time.

ILL requests will not be processed during school holidays. The most significant interruptions in ILL service will occur on the Thursday and Friday of Spring Break week, Thursday through Friday of Thanksgiving week, and over the winter holiday, beginning with the day before Christmas until the first business day after New Year's Day. We also provide limited copying in accordance with U.S. copyright law.

Please note this important addition to the HALL Lending Guidelines:
We advise that you return all items to The Fred Parks Law Library via courier service, ensuring that you will have a receipt as acknowledgment. If you choose an alternative to courier service, please advise the person who returns the borrowed items to request a receipt from the staff member who receives the books. Our staff will not voluntarily offer a receipt, so please be sure that you or your staff member requests one. This should eliminate any uncertainty about whether or not items have been returned.

Outside Researchers

STCL does not loan items in our collection to outside researchers, but, in accordance with U.S. copyright law, STCL provides document delivery services for a fee. A charge of $15.00 plus $0.15 per page per item copied will be billed for copy requests. If a requested item exceeds 100 pages, an additional $15.00 charge will be imposed. Checks payable to STCL are accepted for copy requests.

Submit requests to stclill@stcl.edu. Please provide as much bibliographic information as possible including title of journal (or publication in which the requested article is published), article title, author, date, and page numbers. We will send the article via email, Fax, or U.S. mail; please specify your preferred delivery option.
